CSLB Disputes

All California contractors are required to be licensed by the Contractors State License Board (or “CSLB”). Becoming a licensed contractor takes years of training and experience. With more than 40 different classifications, your contractor license is the center of your construction business.

Because your contractor license is so important, threats from unhappy or unreasonable clients to the CSLB must be taken seriously. Many contractors panic when contacted by the CSLB. They either try to ignore the problem or they say the wrong things. Simple disputes can become formal warnings, an accusation, or a citation. Your contractor license could be suspended or revoked after further disciplinary procedures.

Making timely responses and understanding your duties as a contractor can help you avoid serious CSLB disputes. Proper negotiations and communications with investigators can lead to the early resolution of a claim. With accusations and citations often available online for the world to see, maintaining a clean record can be an important part of generating new and repeat business.
